COVID-19 Symptomatic Student Re-Entry

Policy Change for Re-Entry for a Symptomatic Student:

A symptomatic child who attends Walden should remain at home until: 
(1) they are fever free for at least 24 hours without the assistance of medication; 
(2) other symptoms are significantly resolved, such that it makes sense for them to return to school; AND 
(3) they have tested negative for COVID on a PCR test or 2 rapid tests taken 24 hrs apart- 1st at onset of symptoms and the 2nd after 24 hours. (The previous policy required 36 hours between rapid tests.)

Vaccination Mandates for Schools
The State of California has announced that COVID-19 vaccines will not be required for school attendance for the 22-23 school year. CDPH reports that: "any vaccine requirements would not take effect until after full FDA approval and no sooner than July 1, 2023."

COVID-19 Travel Policy

TRAVEL GUIDELINES:  
Below is our policy for international and domestic travel (including car). 

For unvaccinated students traveling internationally:
  • 7 day quarantine (7 days after travel- return trip is day 0) 
  • get PCR test on day 5, return to school day 7 if no symptoms and PCR test results are negative 
  • Will also accept 2 rapid tests 36 hours apart, day 5 and morning of day 7 

For unvaccinated students traveling domestically or for fully vaccinated students traveling internationally: 
  • 5 day quarantine (5 days after travel- return trip is day 0) 
  • Get PCR test on day 5 (or rapid test on days 3 and 5) and return to school once negative with no symptoms 

For fully vaccinated students traveling domestically;regardless of transmission levels, with appropriate precautions used during travel and at destination such as masking, avoiding large indoor crowds, limiting contact with unvaccinated individuals etc.): 
  • No quarantine required 
  • Return to school with typical precautions in place 
  • Rapid test at school and/or home 3-5 days after travel (return trip is day 0) 

For fully vaccinated students traveling domestically; regardless of transmission levels, if child/family engages in riskier activities such as unmasked in large indoor gatherings, and/or contact with unvaccinated individuals etc.: 
  • 5 day quarantine (5 days after travel- return trip is day 0) 
  • Get PCR test on day 5 (or rapid test on days 3 and 5) and return to school once negative with no symptoms
