UPPER GROUP (4th- 6th Grade)

Ricardo is excited to start a new chapter in his teaching career. He earned his Master’s degree (M.S.Ed) in Special Education from Hunter College in New York City. After teaching middle grades (6th-8th) for seven years and elementary grades for seven years (K-5th) in both New York and Georgia, Ricardo is ready to call California home!
Ricardo specializes in project-based learning and play-based learning. If you peek in the classroom, you may see students creating video projects to showcase their learning, small groups building social skills via cooperative board games, or students watering and measuring their indoor plants. Most of the learning is cross-content and based on real-world applications. Ricardo believes school should be the setting for quintessential childhood memories. Kids should play music, build towers, program robots, launch rockets, grow plants, and integrate math, science, and art into as many projects as possible!
Ricardo grew up in Georgia and began “teaching” while still in high school. He would volunteer at the local elementary school and help kids with reading difficulties. The small groups would translate short books into short plays. Since then, he has worked hard to help all learners access education. The works of Emily Hanford, Tom Little, and Alfie Kohn have strongly influenced his teaching.
In his free time, Ricardo enjoys going to the movies.
