Lunch, Snack, & Recess

Walden embraces a child’s need for movement in multiple ways throughout the school day. Snack and lunch breaks are beloved times of the day when, after nourishing their bodies with food from home, children have an opportunity to play and interact with students from other age groups.

Organized field games are offered in addition to free play. Children engage in imaginative play, spend time on Walden’s legendary climbing structures, play board games, find a quiet spot to read, or talk with a teacher.

Most days students eat snack and lunch outdoors. They gather with friends at an outdoor table, the platforms or play structure, on the grass or under a favorite tree. Students enjoy their food while engaging in social emotional learning (i.e. talking with their friends!).
